Target
2-Day Sale
November 17, 2010
The “2-Day Sale” campaign features comedian Maria Bamford, illustrating the excitement and passion through one woman’s eyes for the annual Target holiday sale. The Target 2-Day Sale is not for wimps. It’s for the passionate, dedicated, even the benignly ruthless. It’s for the moms and dads out there who want the very best quality at the very best price. It’s for people who—though they smile—aren’t kidding around. Director Wayne McClammy guides Maria through a series of frenzied preparations for the big day. Maria’s obsessively perfect character goes all out to be ready and first in line. Failure is not an option.

Please tell me that Maria Bamford will be back this year for the Target black Friday commercials. She is a hoot, and I look forward each year to seeing them!

As soon as I saw the YouTube unit, I knew this campaign was special. It's a great mix of Amy Sedaris' "I Like You" and "Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People" as well as a sweet homage of a dear friend with whom I once worked with in a customer service dept during the dot com days. It's quirky enough for all to love, yet it's inspiration is an inside to joke to those who get the reference. Either way- bring her back next year.

What's good for Target and W+K is that I love these ads. What's great for Target and W+K is that my mom loves these ads, and was up before dawn doing holiday shopping at Target. What's bad is that she didn't train well enough and pulled a hamstring before 8am.
